Consulting Experience with Companies / Organizations:
Professor Hui has provided expert advice and consulting services on copyright and digital piracy to various government and non-government organizations including the Intellectual Property Department of the Hong Kong SAR Government, World Intellectual Property Organization, and Ministry of Law of Singapore. He frequently speaks in conferences and forums on digital piracy, cybersecurity and privacy, Fintech, and technology policy, including those organized by WIPO/OECD, Office of the Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data, A*STAR Singapore, American and Spanish Chambers of Commerce, and HKUST. He recently served as a consultant for Communications Association of Hong Kong, WKK Distributions, and New imedia. He is an advisor of 300cubits.tech, UC.NOW, and Swiss Innovation Valley.
Relevant Teaching Experience with Universities:
Professor Hui has taught undergraduate, MSc, MBA, EMBA, PhD, and executive courses on cybersecurity and risk management, privacy management, Fintech, blockchain and cryptocurrencies, economics of IT, strategic IT management, and business strategy, among others. He has previously taught various undergraduate and graduate courses in National University of Singapore and City University of Hong Kong.

Research and Publications:
Professor Hui’s research interests include cybersecurity, privacy, IT policy, Fintech, and electronic commerce. His research is extensively published in some of the best scholarly journals including American Economic Review, Information Systems Research, Management Science, MIS Quarterly, and Journal of MIS, among others. He presents frequently in international IS/IT conferences. His research has been used in graduate classes in other universities and cited in court hearings. He is regularly invited to review papers in broad disciplines including computing, economics, IS, marketing, and operations and technology management.
Professor Hui has co-authored a number of business cases and book chapters on special topics related to economics of IT and information privacy and security. He frequently contributes op-ed and his research insights on social and political issues related to technology trends and policies in local and overseas newspapers.
Professional Experience:
Professor Hui is currently a Chair Professor in the Department of Information Systems, Business Statistics, and Operations Management at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. He was an Associate Dean (Undergraduate Studies) of the HKUST Business School in 2013-2015. Before joining HKUST, he was an Associate Professor at the City University of Hong Kong (2006-2008) and an Assistant/Associate Professor at the National University of Singapore (2000-2008).
Professor Hui currently serves as a Senior Editor for Information Systems Research and an Editorial Board Member for Journal of Management Information Systems, two of the top three information systems journals used in the Financial Times’ business school rankings. Previously, he served as a co-editor-in-chief of Electronic Commerce Research and Applications. Professor Hui frequently chairs international conferences and edits journal special issues on topics related to information privacy and security and economics of technology. He has served as a reviewer for grant applications from funding agencies in Canada, Hong Kong, Israel, and Singapore, and an external referee for professorial promotions in Hong Kong, New Zealand, Singapore, and the United States.
